about
This song is about wanting to run away from the incoming year and the memories from the one's past. Camilla wrote the lyrics after a long stint of working New Year's Eve at a restaurant. It's a lament to all the New Year's Eve's that she had spent rioting around Melbourne as a teenager.
lyrics
Out in the darkness
Far away from home
Burning my bridges
For light when I’m alone
Keeping my head down
As Christmas parties roll
Said that you’d invite me
Honestly I hope you don’t
Coz baby you hit me like an incoming year
Just to many emotions that I don’t wanna upheave
And I’ve been running, I’ve been driving for weeks
At last light I’m hoping I’ll escape New Years Eve
So if I kept on driving
Out into the west
Where there is nothing familiar
No memories at sunset
Would that make this easier
When I’m caught at midnight
With only the road trains
Like fire works in my headlights
Well baby you hit me like an incoming year
Just to many emotions from the ones that have already been
And I’ve been running, I’ve been driving for weeks
At last light I’m hoping I’ll escape New Years Eve
I’m not saying I forgive you friend,
Not even sure if you did me wrong
But I’m still throwing you out
With cards and calendars three Decembers on
Digging that great valley
Between me and everyone I know
Just a stranger in their window
Moving further,
And further,
Away
Well baby come hit me like an incoming year
With all the emotions from the ones that will never be
And I’ve been running, I’ve been driving for weeks
At last light I’m hoping I’ll escape New Years Eve
Oh at last light I’m hoping I’ll escape New Years Eve
Oh at last light I’m hoping I’ll escape New Years Eve
